Innovative Small Space Storage Solutions for Your Home
While summer days are ending and the back-to-school season picks up, routine and organization are crucial for a smooth transition into the new academic year. Small space storage solutions that help maximize every inch of your space are a great way to simplify the transition. Keep reading for creative tips on how to add small space storage solutions to your home.
Entryway Drop Zone
Establishing an organized entryway zone is essential for maintaining a clutter-free home, as this high-traffic area can easily become chaotic and unorganized. Adding an entryway bench with cubbies or drawers can help provide a place for kids to quickly drop off their coats and other essential items to increase efficiency. If you don’t have the space for a bench, adding wall-mounted hooks and pegboards can be another way to add bags, coats, and keys. See my article, Designing a Beautiful Entryway, for more tips on designing a beautiful and functional entryway.
Pantry Storage Solutions for Snacks
Organizing a pantry for after-school snacks can be vital for minimizing the chaos of after-school activities. Dedicating specific snack zones for your kids to grab their favorite treats quickly can help them avoid making a mess digging through your pantry. Clear containers and labels for baskets or bins are also effective storage solutions that help maintain order and organization while keeping everything neat and accessible. Also, if you need more space, making your pantry area a multipurpose room can help.
One of my favorite projects is the multipurpose pantry and laundry area I created in an Oakton, Virginia, home. We included custom cabinetry to provide ample storage for snacks, canned foods, and cookbooks. To blend function with style, we used Phillip Jeffries performance vinyl wallpaper, creating a cohesive design between the pantry and dining area.
Kids School Stuff
Creating efficient storage solutions for your kids’ school stuff can make a difference in the back-to-school transition. Install over-the-door organizers for school supplies so everything is visible and within reach. Color coordinating can also help your kids keep track of their things and stay organized. Assigning specific colors to each child can help them keep track of their supplies or different folders by each subject to streamline organization. Creating a command center can help keep your family’s schedule and school-related activities organized.
At Home Study Space
Creating a designated study space is crucial for productivity and studying as it can help minimize distractions and provide a clean and quiet place to do work. If you need help determining where to set up this study space, convertible furniture can be a game-changer. Foldable tables, chairs, or even wall-mounted desks can be great space savers to create a more versatile living area.
Kids Bedroom Storage Solutions
Storage solutions are necessary when organizing your kids’ bedrooms. Utilize under-bed storage to store out-of-season clothes and extra bedding. Floating shelves can display books and decorative items. Or multi-functional furniture such as desks with built-in drawers, loft beds, or bookcases with built in desks can all maximize storage and keep the room organized. Utilizing the ceiling and walls by adding vertical storage solutions can free up floor space for more space for your kids to play.
