An Incredible Transformation

Oakton, VA

Like many homeowners these days, our clients decided to stay in their home due to its favorable lot and location, choosing to completely revamp the interior for modern and functional living. The main objective of this project was to design a home with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere ideal for large gatherings and entertaining guests. The result is a home that is nearly unrecognizable.

Our first priority was to create a cocktail lounge on the main floor. We moved a wall, borrowing space from the adjacent library, to create an intimate space for hosting friends. Four comfortable chairs provide seating in the gathering area. We then installed eye-catching overhead lighting. The existing bay window was removed and replaced with French doors opening onto the new screened-in porch (the perfect location to watch Virginia Tech football games!). We modified the coffered ceiling in the reallocated office/library space and added built-in bookcases and custom lighting to create a space for catching up on household tasks or an occasional work-from-home day.

Our clients wanted to create a moodier atmosphere in the kitchen, suitable for evening gatherings. We used muted blue-grey cabinets with a white oak island and accents. Durable quartz was used on the countertops and as an accent wall behind the range. White subway tile was used on the backsplash to add texture. In the dining room, Phillip Jeffries wallpaper adds a sophisticated touch, as well as a custom-built drink station with a full slab backsplash and unique wine storage. A beautiful, contemporary light fixture from Visual Comfort finishes off the dining area.

We created a multipurpose laundry and pantry area, using custom cabinetry to create vast storage for sundries, canned foods, and cookbooks. Using a Phillip Jeffries wallpaper in performance vinyl helps create a cohesive design between the pantry and dining area. With an eye for functionality, we made a dedicated folding space and “catch-all” areas in the laundry and pantry area. Finally, we used vinyl wallpaper in the renovated powder room.

The original family room layout was updated with built-in shelving on either side of the stone fireplace. The recliners and two distinct conversation areas create a cozy and functional living space. We used durable and stylish materials like wool rugs and Perennials fabrics throughout the living spaces, ensuring longevity and ease of maintenance.

This Oakton, VA, home transformation was a true joy to work on!
