Design Details for a Custom Built Home
Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA
When we join a custom-built home project early on, we can work directly with the builder and architect to help make sure every detail is going to work for the client when the home is complete. This project is a great example of TMD being a part of the process from the beginning, and the great teamwork with the architect and builder.
All the small details of the home are some of our favorites. Starting with the gas lanterns that add such a special touch to the façade of the house, the stone we selected, and dark wood details, for example. The stain color of the wood on the exterior of the home is continued on the interior of the house with the beams in the same finish to tie the whole home together.
Another favorite detail on this project is in the kitchen. The small tiles of the backsplash are a reflective copper to play off the copper details in the hood. We opted to run the tile vertically to emphasize the height of the space to take the eye up to the beautiful details of the ceiling beams. And with two generous islands, this kitchen was built to entertain!

The indoor pool was such a fun feature to add to this home! The couple wanted to regularly use it for exercise, so we opted to design an indoor pool to allow for year-round use. For warmer months, we added in French doors that open to the outdoor living area to be able to enjoy the nice weather.
