Nothing sets the tone of a bathroom like the tile. From floor to ceiling, tile is the predominate material in a bathroom. Here are some things to consider when selecting tile for your bathroom design:

Identify Your “Must Have” Tile
Many clients have one tile (or pattern) that they dream of in their design. It can be as simple as white subway tile or as unique as a special accent tile that takes them away to their favorite spa. Either way, this selection is often the starting point in the design process.

Simplify

Given that you have identified your “must-have” tile, we recommend that you choose no more than two other tiles to complement it. Typically, you will have a floor tile, wall tile for the shower/tub surround and possibly all the walls, and a shower floor tile.

Add One “Wow” Factor

The bathroom is the perfect location to show off your personality and design flair. However, in order to keep your design timeless, choose just one show stopper. Big or small, this single element will define your space. Remember this when selecting tile for your bathroom.

Consider Scale

Rememeber to consider scale when selecting tile. Larger tiles are on-trend and make smaller spaces feel bigger. Added bonus: you can use the same tile cut in smaller sizes in a different area of the bathroom. This will lead to a consistent look throughout. We recommend small mosaic tiles for the shower floor as they are easily shaped to the drain. For those who want to stick to tradition, basket weave and subway tiles never go out of style.

Material & Maintenance

Porcelain or ceramic tiles require less maintenance and cleaning than more porous materials such as stone. Larger tiles require less grout and, thus, less cleaning. Use a honed tile on floors to help prevent slipping.
