Focus on Function
Del Ray, Alexandria, VA
When a busy family of four moved into their newly built home in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, they reached out to us to help refresh and update their living spaces with a focus on functionality.
Our design inspiration for this project was a collection of Maine-inspired coastal artwork. From there, we developed our color scheme of light blues, beige, and white. We chose family-friendly, casual furnishings and added texture with accessories.
Our main goal with this home was to add functionality to the existing spaces. For example, we added additional seating to the living areas for gatherings and a small desk nook with a television in the primary walk-in closet. The upper-level laundry room received a complete overhaul, including built-in cabinets, pull-out drawers, and custom hampers.
The home now has two fully equipped office spaces; one in the house and one on the upper level of a stand-alone garage. The in-home office was repainted, and built-in shelving and storage were added. We also added built-in storage in the office space about the garage as well as updating the bathroom. The lower level of the garage was turned into a fully equipped home gym.
