There is something special about a fresh coat of crisp, white paint. It is clean and offers a completely blank palette. However, if you are ready for a change of pace, select a neutral color that adds a bit of depth and interest to your space. Before choosing the perfect neutral colors to use in your space, take into consideration the amount of light the space receives at different times of day as well as the permanent fixtures that are already in the space (for example, kitchen countertops).

Choosing Colors

Choosing the right neutral paint color can often feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. With hundreds of whites, creams, and grays to choose from, oftentimes they all start to look the same. Here are some of my favorites:

• Trim: Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (OC-17) in a semi-gloss finish
• Walls: Benjamin Moore’s Edgecomb Grey (HC-173), Elmira White (HC-84), Manchester Tan (HC-81), and Smokey Taupe (983) in a semi-gloss finish
• Ceiling: Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White (OC-149) in a flat finish

Earthy Colors

These earthy, nuanced colors can help keep you grounded and are the perfect backdrop to any living space. Colors in this family can be warm or cool, and because they transition beautifully with shifting light they are a great choice for rooms used throughout the day. These colors are great if you are looking to give your home a refresh or you are looking to put your home on the market. Using colors like these will give the home a wider appeal and add value as you try to sell.
